Meet the 2025 We See You Grantees!

We are excited to announce our latest cohort of We See You grantees!

When we built the Fund in 2020, we didn’t aspire to do philanthropy the Eurocentric way. We wanted to do it Blackly— focusing on community wisdom, healing, and relationships.

In pursuit of that vision, we invested over $6.9 million in unrestricted funding to Black-led organizations across Washington state from 2020 to 2025. Today, our goal is to raise $246 million — one million for every year of institutionalized slavery in the United States.

We see this as reparations work, and our mission is to fund every single Black-led organization in Washington state. It’s not a matter of if an organization receives funding from us, it's a matter of when.

This round of funding for our 2025 cohort was entirely community-driven. Each 2025 grantee was nominated by an existing We See You grantee. All leaders who were a part of the nomination process come from across the state and work across sectors, each one dedicated to improving the lives of Black people and putting in the daily work of creating a radically free Black future.

We See You: Elevating Black Learners and Leaders

“Whoever teaches learns in the act of teaching, and whoever learns teaches in the act of learning.” - Paulo Freire

These grantees are reshaping the future of learning for Black students across Washington. From access to STEM to college campus visits, and leadership pathways, they elevate brilliance, nurture identity, and open doors.

We see you teaching, mentoring, guiding, and walking shoulder-to-shoulder with our future leaders.

We See You: Building Black Economic Empowerment

“We are expanding the network of critical support created by those who came before us, and being good ancestors for future generations.” - Angela Jones, Co-Architect, Black Future Co-op Fund

These grantees are transforming neighborhoods, creating pipelines to opportunity, and building economic ecosystems by and for Black Washingtonians. Their work proves that when we invest in us, we invest in everyone.

We see you teaching, mentoring, guiding, and walking shoulder-to-shoulder with our future leaders.

We See You: Redefining Public Safety

“True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.” - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Public safety begins by moving at the speed of trust. These grantees are leading bold and innovative work that prioritizes restoration, accountability, and systemic change.

We see you proving that safety doesn’t come from surveillance, but rather from support, care, and community perspectives.

We See You: Prioritizing Wellness

“Use rest to reclaim, refocus and recenter yourself. Rest because you deserve to rest with no excuses needed.” - Hannah L. Drake

These grantees remind us that Black health is essential for connecting to ourselves, to our ancestors, and to our future. From land-based healing to artistic restoration to carceral wellness, they are prioritizing well-being on their own terms and centering health as a collective practice.

We see you making rest, ritual, and renewal possible for our people.

We See You: Leading with Purpose and Strength

“Freedom is not something that one people can bestow on another as a gift. They claim it as their own and none can keep it from them.” - Kwame Nkrumah

Civic engagement is how we honor our ancestors and shape our descendants’ future. These grantees are mobilizing, educating, and organizing for a just Washington where Black voices influence decision-making, policies reflect our needs, and leadership reflects our community.

We see you walking in your strength and bringing others with you.
