Meet our 2025 We See You Grantees!

This round of funding for our 2025 cohort was entirely community-driven. Each 2025 grantee was nominated by an existing We See You grantee. All leaders who were a part of the nomination process come from across the state and work across sectors, each one dedicated to improving the lives of Black people and putting in the daily work of creating a radically free Black future

A for Apple | Greater Seattle area

A4 Apple Learning Center has served the Seattle Metro Area with high-quality preschool education and daycare since 1994. Focused on supporting low-income families, the center offers a safe, culturally-relevant learning environment for infants to five-year-olds. As certified providers through ECEAP and the Seattle Preschool Program, A4 Apple is rated Level 3 in Washington’s Early Achievers system. With a strong track record of community partnerships, they remain committed to delivering care that feels like a home away from home.

African American Leadership Forum | Seattle

The African American Leadership Forum (AALF) is a movement of African American leaders and stewards in Seattle, committed to the revitalization and sustainability of vibrant Black/African American/African descent, Latinx/Indigenous, and American Indian/Alaska Native/Indigenous communities (collectively hereafter: The Community). We are united in the belief that we can do more together than separately. We recognize that in order to achieve enduring, positive, change in our communities we need a truly transformative agenda; one that is exciting and fresh; one that challenges the status quo and changes the game. AALF has a 10 year history of serving The Community which has been harmed by the criminal legal system and currently works to implement trauma intervention strategies.

Black Executive Leadership Academy | Greater Seattle Area

The Black Executive Leadership Academy (BELA) is a comprehensive, transformative leadership development program designed for aspiring and experienced Black nonprofit leaders. Our mission is to cultivate the next generation of Black leaders, equipping them with the tools, strategies, and support needed to thrive in the nonprofit sector.

Black Home Initiative | South Seattle, South King County, and North Pierce County

Black Home Initiative (BHI) is a new regional effort that seeks to target the racial inequities at the core of the housing ecosystem in an effort to increase homeownership among Black households.

Black Snohomish County | Snohomish County

Black Snohomish County (Black SnoCo) is a community-driven organization dedicated to uplifting Black-owned businesses and fostering cultural connection throughout Snohomish County. Under the leadership of Michael Adams and Kendra Montgomery, they provide a platform for visibility, entrepreneurship, and community celebration, including events like Juneteenth and Black History Month. Through initiatives like Pitch Black Entertainment and Change the Narrative, they support local creatives, host cultural events, and offer resources that empower Black residents and entrepreneurs. Their mission is to build sustainable networks that celebrate Black excellence and create lasting impact in the region.

Choose 180 | King County

CHOOSE 180 began in 2011 as a community-centered effort in partnership with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to impact racial disproportionality, keep youth out of the juvenile criminal legal system, and break the school-to-prison pipeline. Recognizing that the criminal legal system was not the most effective tool in addressing complex social issues, then King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg reached out to community leader Doug Wheeler Jr. to partner in creating an alternative to traditional prosecution. Because of this partnership and the community of support, approximately several hundred young people per year are served in community where they can grow and thrive.

Degrees of Change | Tacoma-Seattle Area

Degrees of Change envisions a future where all young people can lead and thrive in their education, careers, and communities. They partner with schools, colleges, employers, and community organizations to support underrepresented students through leadership training, college success coaching, and career development. As both a national backbone and a local service provider in Tacoma-Seattle, Degrees of Change uses research-based programs and innovative systems to address systemic inequities. Rooted in a deep love for community, they believe homegrown, college-educated leaders are best equipped to drive lasting change.

Diaspora District | Washington and beyond

Diaspora District is a diaspora relations organization that partners with leaders across Africa and the diaspora to develop equitable, sustainable solutions in education. They focus on preparing students not just for jobs, but for meaningful lives and careers that support long-term community and economic growth. By connecting professionals across sectors, Diaspora District leverages the unique insights and cultural knowledge of the African diaspora to reshape education systems and improve workforce readiness. Their global network of thought leaders is committed to transforming education through collaboration, innovation, and a deep commitment to equity.

HBCU Annual Trip Cohort | Washington and beyond

Life Enrichment Group | Seattle and South King County

Life Enrichment Group (LEG) is a Seattle-based nonprofit founded in 2003 to empower youth and families through culturally relevant education, mentorship, and the arts. Their programs—including Young Queens, Know to Grow, and Youth in Business—focus on academic achievement, personal development, and college readiness, particularly for Black youth and youth of color. Under the leadership of Executive Director Monika Mathews, LEG partners youth with community-based role models to foster self-worth and life skills that help them overcome systemic challenges. With a 93% success rate in guiding participants toward higher education, LEG continues to invest in the next generation of leaders across Seattle and King County.

New Life Baptist Church | Thurston County

New Life Baptist Church recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, commemorating its establishment in 1973 as the first predominantly Black church in Thurston County. Co-founded by Dr. Thelma Jackson, a pioneering educator and community leader, the church has long served as a spiritual and cultural cornerstone in the region. Dr. Jackson, alongside her husband Nat Jackson, has been instrumental in advancing equity and inclusion in Lacey, with Thelma being honored as the 2023 Ken Balsley Lacey Historian of the Year for her work documenting Black history in the area.

Rainier Beach Community Action Coalition | Seattle

Rainier Beach Action Coalition (RBAC) is a Black-led, grassroots organization dedicated to implementing the Rainier Beach Neighborhood Plan and fostering a connected, sustainable, and equitable community. Their mission focuses on promoting quality education, living-wage jobs, affordable housing and transportation, and building neighborhood capacity to enhance the quality of life for Rainier Beach residents. RBAC’s initiatives include youth engagement, food justice programs, and safety projects aimed at creating a thriving and inclusive neighborhood. Through partnerships and community-driven efforts, RBAC continues to address critical issues and support the well-being of the Rainier Beach community.

Reclaiming Our Greatness | Statewide

Reclaiming Our Greatness (ROG) empowers Black and other impacted communities across Washington State with wrap-around, culturally responsive services that address housing, education, and legal system challenges. Founded by Marshaun Barber, they combine direct support with advocacy and partnerships to help families reclaim stability and thrive after life’s most difficult moments. Guided by values of equity, empowerment, innovation, and compassion, they envision a future where everyone—regardless of race or background—has the opportunity to grow and succeed. Rooted in a deep belief in the potential of youth and families, ROG continues to inspire change and build thriving communities for all.

Sacred Land Collective | Washington and beyond

Sacred Land Collective is a spiritual partnership stewarding 78 acres of Black-owned land in the Pacific Northwest, where they host rituals and ceremonies rooted in healing, heritage, and connection to the land. They center the wellness of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities by uplifting cultural arts and practices that address generational and collective trauma. Since acquiring their retreat property in 2020, they have cultivated a space for experiential learning, artistic expression, and nature-based restoration. With a focus on the global majority, their work integrates agriculture, spiritual healing, and sustainable land stewardship to foster thriving, culturally sovereign communities.

Washington Community Alliance (WCA) is a statewide coalition of organizations led by and working in communities of color to close the representation gap in elected office and drive systemic change. They build strong coalitions, support leadership development, and provide capacity-building resources to empower member organizations. WCA advocates for policies that enable Black and Brown communities to share in the prosperity they help create, such as inclusive public programs and equitable tax reforms. Yoga Behind Bars | Statewide
